Privacy policy

In effect since 15 October 2026.

This policy covers the Meimatai app for Android, the web version at meimatai.com/app and this site. It describes what data exists, where it is kept and who handles it.

Location

To calculate the times, Meimatai needs the latitude and longitude of a place. You can pick a city from the list built into the app, or tap "Use my location".

In the second case, the app asks the system for location permission, reads the coordinates once and uses them in the calculation, done on the device itself. The coordinates are kept on the device for the following days and are not sent to any server, ours or anyone else's. The app does not follow your location in the background.

Data kept on the device

The app keeps in the device's local storage (or the browser's, in the web version):

• the chosen place and, if you enter them, its elevation and that of the horizon;
• your preferences: language, opinions shown, seconds, minutes for candle lighting;
• the alerts you turned on and the notice for each one.

None of this is sent off the device. This data is erased when you uninstall the app or clear the site's data in the browser.

Alerts

Alerts are local notifications: the device itself schedules them and shows them at the calculated times. No server sends these notifications and no data leaves the device for them. The app asks for notification permission only when you turn an alert on.

Supporting the project

Meimatai is free. Anyone who wants to support the project can make a voluntary payment:

• In the Android app, through Google Play's payment system. The payment is processed by Google, under Google's privacy policy. We receive from Google only the record of the purchase (amount, date and an order identifier); we do not receive your card, bank account or Pix details.
• On the site and the web version, through a Stripe payment page. The payment is processed by Stripe, under Stripe's privacy policy. Stripe tells us the amount and the contact details you give when paying, such as name and email; we do not receive your card details.

We use these records only for accounting and tax purposes.

Hosting of this site and the web version

This site and the web version are served by Cloudflare. Like any server on the internet, Cloudflare receives technical data about each visit, such as the IP address and the type of browser, to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We add no analytics tool, tracking cookie or ad.

The browser may keep the web version so it works offline. This happens on your device and sends no data.

External links

The app's guide links to the sources it cites in the Sefaria library, and the city search uses GeoNames data, which is built into the app. When you tap a link you leave Meimatai, and the site you open has its own privacy policy.

Children

Meimatai can be used by people of any age and collects no personal data from anyone, children included.

Your rights

Since we keep no personal data of yours on our servers, there is no account to look up, correct or delete. The app's data is only on your device, under your control. For support payments, you can ask for information about, or the deletion of, the records we receive, under Brazil's General Data Protection Law (Law 13,709/2018), by writing to the contact below.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated beforehand, with the new effective date at the top.
